What are the miracles granted to martyrs and their status, and is there a greater degree than martyrdom that a Muslim can attain if they are unable to participate in Jihad?

The miracles (karāmāt) of martyrs are of two types: those that appear on them after their death, such as the scent of musk, a smile, and light; and what Allah has prepared for them of great bounty, good provision, and life with Him, as Allah Almighty says: "And never think of those who have been killed in the cause of Allah as dead. Rather, they are alive with their Lord, receiving provision."

The rank of the ṣiddīq (truthful one) is higher than that of the martyr, as Allah Almighty says: "And whoever obeys Allah and the Messenger – those will be with the ones upon whom Allah has bestowed favor of the prophets, the ṣiddīqīn, the martyrs and the righteous. And excellent are those as companions!"

This is also indicated by the noble Hadith narrated by Al-Shaykhayn (Al-Bukhari and Muslim) from Abu Sa'id Al-Khudri that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Indeed, the inhabitants of Paradise will look at the inhabitants of the ghuraf (elevated chambers) above them as you look at a brilliant star in the horizon from the East or the West, due to the difference in rank between them." They asked: "O Messenger of Allah, those are the dwellings of the Prophets that no one else can reach?" He replied: "Yes, by Him in Whose Hand is my soul, [they are] men who believed in Allah and affirmed the Messengers."
