Does a brother commit a sin by refusing to complete residency papers for his mother, who causes him problems and pushes him to use drugs?

Filial piety necessitates striving to serve one's parents and make them happy through every permissible means. Among the best forms of piety is ensuring the success of their marital life. The son must act appropriately when his desire for his mother to maintain her family clashes with her desire to visit him. He should choose the optimal method to resolve this issue, such as setting a duration for the visit or hosting the entire family. He should also advise his mother gently regarding the obligation to obey and serve her husband, remembering that Allah is aware of his intention.

As for taking tranquilizers, it is not permissible to consume them except out of a need determined by a specialized physician and under his supervision, because need takes the place of necessity. If these pills cause languor in the body, their ruling is that of prohibited intoxicants. As for the prohibited narcotics consumed by addicts, they are a grave sin, and one must advise the brother and strive to free him from them by consulting specialized doctors.
