Is it permissible to employ a Hindu maid in the house if she does not cook, bearing in mind that her sponsor thought she was Christian?

It is permissible to hire a non-Muslim woman for service, but a distinction must be made between hiring her for service and hiring her to raise children. This is because leaving children under the care of non-Muslim women may lead to their upbringing outside of the Islamic faith and their being influenced by behaviors and customs contrary to Islam, and they may become accustomed to committing sins.

Therefore, there is no objection to keeping a foreign maid, provided that the aforementioned precautions are observed, and diligence is shown in inviting her to Islam with wisdom and good admonition.
