Is it better to inform one’s mother about the construction of a charitable well (sadaqah) on her behalf and show her its picture, or to conceal the matter from her, fearing ostentation (riya’), while still desiring to bring joy to her?

Concealing charity is better because it is further removed from showing off (riyaa'), unless its public disclosure leads to an overriding benefit, such as people emulating it or warding off blame. In such a case, making it public is better.

The giver of charity must ensure that their intention is free from seeking praise. If their intention is purely for Allah and includes a legitimate benefit, such as pleasing parents, then there is no harm in disclosing the charity.
