Is it permissible for a Type 1 diabetic to break their fast in Ramadan due to severe thirst?
If fasting becomes too difficult for someone due to intense thirst, they are permitted to break their fast, and there is no sin upon them. Breaking the fast may even become obligatory if the fasting person fears perishing from continuing the fast. They must make up the day they broke their fast if they are able to fast without risk to their health. Imam An-Nawawi said: "Whoever is overcome by hunger and thirst and fears perishing, it is obligatory for them to break their fast, even if they are healthy and not traveling."
