Is it permissible for the husband to divorce his second wife, whom he does not desire or consort with, and who creates problems for him, even if she does not ask for a divorce?
The general principle is that divorce is reprehensible. A home is not built on love, and marital problems do not justify divorce. Divorce is a right belonging to the husband alone. The husband must be just between his two wives concerning their rights. If the second wife waives her right for the first, that is permissible; otherwise, it is not permissible for the husband to harm her. The husband must either be just or release (her) with kindness. The first wife giving her husband the choice between her and her co-wife is a sign of poor marital conduct and a challenge to the husband's right, unless she stipulated that in the contract or there was injustice.
