What is the ruling on eating عجوة dates 40 days before a wedding with the intention of preventing sorcery?

It is authentically reported from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, that "whoever eats seven 'Ajwah dates in the morning will not be harmed by poison or magic on that day." Some hadiths specify the dates as those from al-Aliyah or Madinah. Therefore, whoever wishes to protect himself from magic should eat seven 'Ajwah dates from Madinah in the morning. If these are not available, then any dates may be used, and one should persevere in this practice. Some scholars hold that the apparent meaning of the hadiths specifies Madinah's 'Ajwah dates for repelling poison and nullifying magic, while others permit the use of any date.
