Is it permissible to criticize the fatwas of satellite channel scholars who deviate from the methodology of the Salaf, to warn against them, and to clarify their watering down [of religious principles] and their transgressions, or is that considered forbidden backbiting?

The status of scholars is great, for they are the inheritors of the prophets. If the criticism of scholars is intended for disparagement, defamation, assailing their honor, and tracking their mistakes, then it is not permissible, due to the hadith: "O you who have believed with your tongues but faith has not entered your hearts: Do not backbite Muslims, nor pursue their faults. For whoever pursues the faults of his brother, Allah will pursue his faults, even exposing him in his own home." And Ibn Asakir said: "The flesh of scholars is poisoned." However, if the criticism is intended for the sake of benefit and to clarify an error in a respectful manner, then there is no objection to it; rather, it is religiously required. And whoever knows something about the religion of Allah should explain it to the people, and he should clarify the scholar's error with wisdom and respect, accompanied by religious evidence.
