The answer

Among the most important means of overcoming whisperings (): turning away from them and distracting oneself from them, while seeking help from Allah. And among the things that help in abandoning a vow is remembering what has been mentioned in the prohibition thereof. A vow made under the influence of whisperings is not valid, and whisperings regarding the very basis of the vow do not entail the obligation to fulfill it, unless one is certain of the vow; because it is not valid except by utterance, and it is not binding merely by intention, and the principle is the freedom from obligation. As for the clothing that suffices in fulfilling a vow, it is like the clothing that suffices in expiation for an oath. A full-length shirt and the like are sufficient, and a robe is sufficient if it is concealing. As for a Western shirt alone, it is not suitable as clothing because it does not suffice in expiation for an oath.
