What is the ruling on the wages received by a mosque imam from money earned through cultivating and selling drugs, especially if he has no other income?

It is not permissible to contract with an Imam for a mosque for a wage that is known to come from the proceeds of drugs. If this occurs, the wage is unlawful (haram), except in cases of extreme necessity, such as the absence of essential provisions, in which case it is permissible to work until another job is found. If one was unaware of the unlawfulness of the money until after working, then it is permissible for him to take the wage for the past period. It is advisable to invite these people to abandon this prohibited work.
