Is it permissible to buy meat from non-Islamic markets in Western countries at a cheaper price, while reciting the Shahadah when washing it? What is the religious ruling on that?

A Muslim must seek out lawful and good food. Allah Almighty says: "O Messengers, eat from the good things and work righteousness" (Quran 23:51). And the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Indeed, Allah is good and accepts only what is good."

The default ruling for slaughtered animals is prohibition until their lawfulness is known, except that the slaughtered animals of the People of the Book are lawful if the slaughtering is done by cutting the windpipe and jugular veins, based on the words of Allah Almighty: "And the food of those who were given the Scripture is lawful for you" (Quran 5:5).

If it is possible to verify that the slaughterer is from the People of the Book and that death occurred by cutting the windpipe and jugular veins, not by stunning or strangulation, then there is no objection to purchasing these meats. If this cannot be verified, then they must be avoided. Reciting the Shahadah over the meat is of no benefit if it is not confirmed that it was slaughtered according to Islamic law.
