What is the ruling on the supplication: "O Allah, grant me righteous offspring and memorizers of the Qur’an, and if not, then make me barren"?

Allah is not incapable of granting you righteous and believing offspring, and you should supplicate to Allah for that. You have an excellent example in the supplication of Zakariya (peace be upon him): "My Lord, grant me from Yourself a good offspring. Indeed, You are the Hearer of supplication." (Quran 3:38). A person should also ask Allah for well-being (al-afiyah). In the story of Yusuf (Joseph), peace be upon him, when he said: "My Lord, prison is moreto my liking," (Quran 12:33) Allah revealed to him: "O Yusuf! You imprisoned yourself when you said 'prison is more to my liking.' Had you said 'well-being is more to my liking,' you would have been granted well-being."
