The scholar Bakr bin Abdullah Abu Zayd addressed the term "Usuli" (fundamentalist), which was famously used for those prominent in the fundamentals of religion. However, it acquired a new, negative meaning in the wake of the Islamic awakening, as enemies of Islam used it to tarnish the Muslims' return to faith. The word "fundamentalism" in its original American context refers to a priestly Christian denomination that rejects the manifestations of life. Christians use it to describe any Muslim who adheres to their religion. Sheikh Abdul Aziz bin Baz warned against news agencies adopting this term to defame Muslims who adhere to their religion. He emphasized that these foreign terms aim to create an atmosphere of fear of religion and resistance against those who call to it.
