What is the importance of the sun and moon in the Qur'an and Sunnah?

The Quranic verses indicate that Allah created the sun as a radiant light (ḍiyāʾ) and the moon as a light (nūr), and ordained for them stations so that people may know the number of years and the reckoning. He made them both run for a specified term, and subjected them, along with the night and day, to serve humanity, all for profound wisdom.
