What is the ruling on consistently performing the non-emphasized Sunnahs that the Prophet (peace be upon him) did not consistently perform, and should they be done from time to time as an emulation of him?

The difference between confirmed and non-confirmed Sunnahs is that the non-confirmed ones yield less reward, but observing them for someone who has the ability and energy is a great good. Examples of these include four rak'ahs after Dhuhr and four before Asr. Observing them is commendable for those who are able, and their rank and merit are less than that of the confirmed Sunnahs. Whoever consistently performs them does well, and there is no harm in abandoning them. Whoever performs them sometimes and abandons them sometimes is still on the path of good.
