Am I entitled to refuse a suitor who would not help me achieve what I aspire to for myself and my family, and who would impose things upon me that I do not desire?

The expenses of marriage are the sole responsibility of the husband. The wife must obey her husband in what is good, and in matters related to marriage and its consequences. The default is for the wife to reside where her husband resides, unless she stipulated at the time of the contract to live in a specific place. There is no harm in breaking off an engagement if it serves a benefit, but it is disliked to break it off if there is no benefit. It is recommended to consult with wise individuals and perform Istikhara prayer before making a decision.
