The ruling on singing was previously explained in fatwa no. 30530, and the ruling on dancing in fatwas no. 30659 and 44352. Islamic law has not specified a particular punishment for someone who commits a forbidden act of dancing. Advice must be offered to those who commit forbidden acts of singing or dancing, and this should be done with wisdom and a kind approach, reminding them of the grave consequences of the act. A Muslim should choose a spouse of good religious character and morals for marriage. A woman remains a stranger to her suitor until the marriage contract is concluded, so it is not permissible to speak with her except out of necessity.
