The answer

Lands purchased with the intention of reselling them for a profit are considered trade goods and are subject to zakat. Zakat is calculated by appraising the land at the completion of a full lunar year (hawl) from the original capital used for its purchase. One-quarter of one-tenth (2.5%) of its market value at the time the hawl is completed is to be given, regardless of its purchase price.
