What is the ruling on seeking blessing from the relics of the righteous, by analogy with the Companions seeking blessing from the relics of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him?

Seeking blessings from the آثار (relics) of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, such as his hair and sweat, is permissible and sound, as it is established in the Sunnah that his hair was distributed during the Farewell Pilgrimage. As for seeking blessings from the آثار (relics) of others, it is forbidden, because no one else can be compared to him, and because that could lead to extremism and polytheism. Furthermore, the Companions did not seek blessings from the آثار (relics) of anyone other than the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, which indicates that the truth lies in abstaining from such acts.
