Can there be a comprehensive intention for all good, such as entering the highest Paradise or seeking Allah's pleasure, to maximize the reward for every daily act?
Intention is the trade of the scholars. Through it, the reward for deeds is magnified, the recompense increases, permissible acts transform into acts of worship, and sins become more wicked if evil intentions are multiplied within them.
Intention is the foundation for the soundness of acts of obedience and for multiplying their virtue. For example, the intention behind visiting the mosque is an act of obedience in which many good intentions can be harbored, such as visiting the Lord, awaiting prayer, performing i'tikaf (spiritual retreat), devoting oneself to the remembrance of Allah, benefiting Muslims, and overcoming sins.
Permissible acts can also be transformed into acts of worship through good intentions, such as applying perfume with the intention of following the , showing reverence for the mosque, repelling foul odors, and increasing one's discernment. Indeed, anything that preserves the body and aids in religious practice can be intended as a means of drawing closer to Allah.
