Does the penitent's worry about his sin persist, or does he only regret it when he remembers it?

Remorse is sorrow and grief over committing a sin. It may occur solely in the heart, or it may be accompanied by tears from the eyes. The penitent is not required to remain in perpetual sorrow or to renew remorse every time the sin is recalled, for "remorse is repentance," and its renewal is not a condition, though there is no harm in a person feeling remorse upon remembering the sin.
