What is the ruling on those who mix good deeds with disobedience?

Ahl al-Sunnah wa al-Jama'ah (the People of the Sunnah and the Community) believe that a perpetrator of sin does not exit the fold of Islam, unless the sin itself constitutes disbelief (kufr). Thus, he is a believer by virtue of his faith, yet a sinner due to his disobedience. He will be recompensed for his good deeds and his evil deeds, and if he repents, Allah will forgive him. Minor sins are expiated by avoiding major sins and obeying commands, as Allah the Almighty says: "If you avoid the major sins which you are forbidden, We will remove from you your lesser sins and admit you to a noble entrance [to Paradise]." (Quran 4:31)
