Is the reward of the one who guides to good deeds equal to that of the one who performs them, even if the guide does not perform them? And is the reward of one who publishes knowledge online greater than that of one who gives lessons to a small number of people?

Scholars have differed regarding the meaning of "like" (mithliyyah) in the hadith (definition): "Whoever guides to a good deed will have a reward like that of its doer." Some have held that the one who guides is like the doer in attaining the origin of the reward, but not in its exact amount. Others have taken the apparent meaning of the hadith, that the one who guides truly receives a reward like that of theer, citing that reward is a bounty from Allah, which He bestows upon whom He wills. Accordingly, the core of the matter revolves around the sincerity of the intention of the one who guides to good. To the extent of his sincerity and truthfulness, his reward is magnified. Indeed, the reward of the one who guides may be greater, and his reward increases as the number of those who benefit from his knowledge increases.
