There is no limit to the duration of purity (ṭuhr) between two menstrual periods. The minimum duration of menstruation (ḥayḍ) is one day and one night, according to the majority of scholars. So, if bloody discharge continues for a day and a night after a period of three or four months of cessation, then it is considered menstruation. However, if it ceases before that, it is not considered menstruation according to the majority of scholars. Nevertheless, it is preferable to perform (ritual bath) as a precautionary measure, following the opinion of the Malikis.
