Is it more obligatory for me to love the Companions and their Successors, or to love my parents?

Love for parents is natural, whereas love for the Companions and their Successors is religious, commanded by Islamic law, and a requirement of faith. Islamic law does not stipulate preferring love for the Companions over love for parents, unlike love for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, which implies prioritizing obedience to him and following him over all other beloved things, not changing innate love. Legally mandated love differs from innate love, and its prioritization means giving precedence to fulfilling the commands of Islamic law over the desires of the soul.
