Does sin befall one who authorized another person to slaughter a cat as an offering to a sorcerer to perform magic for "bringing the beloved," even though the authorizer refused the slaughter on the grounds that it is polytheism? And is this considered major polytheism or merely a sin? And is one who authorizes an act like one who commits it?

Consulting sorcerers is one of the great evils and grave sins. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, counted it among the seven destructive sins, and he warned that whoever consults a sorcerer and believes him has disbelieved in what was revealed to him. Appointing someone else to slaughter for a sorcerer does not remove the sin from the one who appointed him, because they are partners in sin, and such an appointment indicates belief in what the sorcerer says. As for declaring someone an apostate (takfir), for a specific individual to be judged as such, the conditions must be met and the impediments, such as ignorance or misinterpretation (ta'wil), must be absent.
