The Quranic fasila (segmentation mark/verse-ending) is the last word of a verse, separating it from what follows. It is considered one of the verbal embellishments in the Quran. There has been a disagreement among scholars regarding the presence of saj' (rhymed prose) in the Quran, which is a verbal disagreement that ultimately leads to consensus. Scholars consider the Quranic fawasil to be an adornment and beauty for the organized discourse, and intended for miraculousness, as they contribute to the eloquence of the discourse. Pausing at them reveals their beauties. One must pause at the fawasil so that they may be heard, and the souls of the listeners may be affected by the beauties of that symmetry.
