A parent should choose good names for their children, because they will be called by them on the Day of Resurrection, as narrated from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. It is not permissible for Muslims to name their children with foreign names that carry a Sharia (definition) prohibition or are specific to disbelievers, such as "George" and "Peter." As for common names like "John" (Yahya) and "Jesus" (Isa), there is no objection to them for Muslims or for the People of the Book. Identifying the specificity of disbelievers' names is a matter for experts.
