In brief, is fasting Mondays and Thursdays and the al- البيض days better than fasting like David (a.s.) because it involves following the Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him?
The best voluntary fasting is the fasting of David, peace be upon him, due to its establishment by the authentic text from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: "Fast one day and break your fast one day, for that is the fasting of David, peace be upon him, and it is the best fasting." Some scholars have stated that if fasting one day and breaking the fast one day conflicts with fasting on Mondays and Thursdays, then the fasting of David takes precedence due to its absolute superiority. And some of them have stated that fasting the recommended days along with the fasting of David does not negate the virtue of the fasting of David. And the one who fasts like the fasting of David is following the verbal of the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him. And the scholars have compiled the days that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, used to fast, and they came close to being half of the year, so his fasting is like the fasting of David, peace be upon him.
