Is it permissible for a woman to pray with men in the Prayer for Rain (Salat al-Istisqa)?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

It is recommended for the elderly, the weak, children, the infirm, and women who are not adorned to go out for the Salatul-Istisqa (prayer for rain). However, an adorned woman is prohibited from going out for two reasons:

1. This contradicts the required humility and submission.

2. It is not permissible for a perfumed and adorned woman to go out at any time, based on the hadith: "Any woman who applies perfume and then goes out, passing by people so they can smell her fragrance, is a fornicator," and the hadith: "Any woman who has used incense should not attend the last 'Isha prayer with us."
