Is it permissible to accept an expensive gift (a tablet device) from an individual who works for company (A), which is contracted with company (B), which in turn is contracted with my company, knowing that our current relationship is indirect, but I had previously chosen his company as one of the best executors? And is this gift considered an expression of gratitude for my choice or an expression of friendship?

The gift offered to you in exchange for your job is a forbidden bribe, and the proof for that is the saying of the Prophet, peace be upon him: "Why doesn't he sit in the house of his father and mother and see if he is given a gift or not?" This gift must be returned to its owner. If that is not possible or if he refuses to take it, then it should be returned to the company.
