Is it permissible for me to house a friend with me in accommodation provided to me for free by my company, in exchange for him paying me part of the housing allowance he receives from his company, or for him to pay me the entire housing allowance?

Companies provide housing to employees in two ways: ownership of usufruct, in which case the employee has the right to use and rent it out; or permission to use only, in which case he does not have the right to rent it out. If the contract does not specify this, the company must be asked. If they allow renting, there is no harm; otherwise, it is not permissible to house others. The Permanent Committee has issued a fatwa stating that it is not permissible to rent out housing if the company's regulations prohibit it, as this would be a violation of the condition.
