If a woman's work exposes her to seclusion with a man (khalwa) or suspicious mixing, then it is impermissible for her to engage in it. However, if her work is permissible and she is in need of it, she should weigh her need for work against her need for marriage and consult with wise people. The suitor (khatib) is a stranger to the woman he is proposing to (makhtubah), just like any other non-mahram man.
