Is the Hadith: "O Allah, grant me a soul at peace, that believes firmly in Your promise, submits to Your command, and is content with Your decree" authentic?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

Ibn Abi Al-Dunya narrated this hadith in his book "Contentment with Allah's Decree," stating that a man of poor appearance complained to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, about his worries concerning what had passed in this world and what remained of it. Later, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, met him, and his appearance had improved. The man informed him that he had seen someone in a dream who taught him a du'a (supplication): "O Allah, grant me a soul that is tranquil, certain of Your promise, submissive to Your command, and content with Your decree." He said that after this, he no longer cared about what had passed nor what remained. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, then told him: "You have seen good, so adhere to it." We have not found any scholar who authenticated or weakened this hadith.
