Is it forbidden or permissible to take sleeping pills?
Most sleeping pills contain sedative or narcotic substances in small proportions, and cause side effects and addiction. It is not permissible to take them except after consulting a trusted physician who deems them absolutely necessary to relieve anxiety or tension. Sheikh Ibn Uthaymeen issued a fatwa permitting their use in cases of extreme necessity, provided that it is under the supervision and authorization of a specialized physician.
