What is the ruling on saying "Bismillah" when eating while wearing impermissible clothing?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

Reciting "Bismillah" (in the name of Allah) before eating and drinking is prescribed, based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "O boy, say Bismillah, eat with your right hand, and eat from what is in front of you." And also his saying: "When one of you eats food, let him say: 'Bismillah,' and if he forgets at the beginning, then let him say: 'Bismillah at its beginning and end.'" Wearing forbidden clothing does not prevent one from saying "Bismillah" over food, because what is forbidden is to say "Bismillah" over the act of disobedience itself. One must hasten to repent from wearing forbidden clothing and from everything that angers Allah.
