The answer

Whoever buys real estate to preserve their money, not for trade, is not obligated to pay zakat on it by consensus; because it is considered "asset for personal use" (mal al-qiniyah), which is not subject to zakat. One of the meanings of "qiniyah" is preserving money and saving, unless the intention is to evade zakat. If someone resorts to stratagem to nullify a religious obligation, it will not be nullified for them, and zakat becomes obligatory on them, and they are treated contrary to their intention. And Allah knows best.
