Is it permissible to add to the saying "Rabbi-ghfir li" (Lord, forgive me) three times in the sitting between the two prostrations, and is it permissible to supplicate with other established supplications?
Source: FtawySummary from Ftawy's records · added here Sep 2, 2026
Saying "Rabbi ighfir li" (Lord, forgive me) between the two prostrations is legislated (mashru'). It is obligatory according to the Hanbalis and recommended (mustahabb) according to others. The obligation is fulfilled by saying it once, and it is not restricted to three times. If one increases upon that, there is no harm in it, while taking into consideration not causing hardship for the followers (ma'mumin) in the case of an Imam. There is no blame in asking for other than forgiveness, but limiting oneself to what has been related (warid) is better.
