How did the Prophet (peace be upon him) sleep? In detail.
The (prophetic tradition), both verbal and practical, concerning the Prophet Muhammad's (peace be upon him) sleeping habits includes: sleeping early unless there is a necessity, waking up in the last third of the night for (night prayer), and he disliked sleeping before the Isha (night) prayer and conversing after it. He would sleep for half the night, stand in prayer for a third of it, and sleep for a sixth of it. Also, performing ablution (wudu') before sleeping, dusting the bed, lying on the right side, and reciting the remembrance (adhkar) of sleep such as reading Al-Muawwidhatayn (Surahs Al-Falaq and An-Nas) and "Qul Huwa Allahu Ahad" ( Al-) three times with blowing into the hands and wiping the body, and Ayat Al-Kursi (the Throne Verse), and supplications (dua) like: "O Allah, protect me from Your punishment on the Day You resurrect Your servants," and "All praise is due to Allah, who fed us, gave us to drink, sufficed us, and sheltered us. How many are there who have no one to suffice them and no one to shelter them," and "In Your name, O Allah, I die and I live." And concluding the remembrance by saying: "O Allah, I have surrendered my face to You, and entrusted my affair to You, and relied upon You, out of desire for You and fear of You. There is no refuge or escape from You except to You. O Allah, I have believed in Your Book which You revealed, and in Your Prophet whom You sent."
