What the girl has committed — fornication and abortion — are grave sins. She must hasten to repent and pay the blood money (diyah) for the fetus if the abortion occurred in the second forty-day period of pregnancy, because it enters the stage of formation. No expiation () is required of her as long as the miscarriage occurred before the ensoulment.
