What is the expiation for a girl who committed adultery, became pregnant, then aborted the fetus when it was two months old? And how does she make up for fasting two consecutive months while having her menstrual period? And is it permissible for her to use medication to stop her period for that purpose?

What the girl has committed — fornication and abortion — are grave sins. She must hasten to repent and pay the blood money (diyah) for the fetus if the abortion occurred in the second forty-day period of pregnancy, because it enters the stage of formation. No expiation (kaffarah) is required of her as long as the miscarriage occurred before the ensoulment.
