Am I subject to the ruling regarding an obsessive individual who is overwhelmed and excused in matters of divorce and the reality of faith, even though the cause of this obsession—and Allah knows best—is the sin of smoking, or does this sin disqualify me from the ruling of excused obsession, considering Al-Shafi'i's statement: "And whoever is overcome in his intellect by a natural disposition or a new ailment not brought upon himself by a sin, is not bound by divorce, nor prayer, nor penalties..."?

If a person is overpowered and acts without free will, then he is not held accountable for his actions, as Allah Almighty says: "And there is no blame upon you for that in which you have erred, but [only for] what your hearts intended." And as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Indeed, Allah has pardoned for my Ummah their mistakes, their forgetfulness, and what they are forced to do." The fact that the whispering (waswasah) is caused by a sin like smoking is not considered; one must repent from smoking and turn to Allah.
