Is delaying during the "appointed days" not afforded extra reward, knowing that an increase in goodness is praised in the Quran, as in His (the Almighty’s) saying: "And remember Allah during a number of appointed days. But whoever hastens [his departure] in two days - there is no sin upon him; and whoever delays [until the third] - there is no sin upon him for him who fears Allah. And fear Allah and know that unto Him you will be gathered"?

The scholars answered the problem of the verse: "there is no sin upon him" (2:203) regarding those who hasten and those who delay, by stating that this promise of forgiveness is conditioned upon piety. Al-Qurtubi mentioned that delaying is better due to increased obedience and following the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and this is agreed upon by the majority of jurists. Furthermore, the reason for the revelation of the verse was to negate sin from both those who hasten and those who delay, as people in the جاهلية (pre-Islamic era) believed that one of them was sinful, and the verse negated that from both of them, but this does not imply equality. The "counted days" are the days of Tashreeq, and the remembrance of Allah therein refers to the Takbirat and other forms of remembrance.
