What is the ruling on obeying parents who lie about and slander their son's wife, and what is the ruling on a husband who obeys them and divorces his wife based on that?

Scholars are unanimous regarding the prohibition of lying, especially if it is to compel a child to do something that is not well-known. As for divorcing one's wife at the command of the parents, jurists have differed. If the command is merely out of a whim or animosity not based on religious grounds, then obedience is not obligatory, and the husband does not sin by divorcing his wife, even if she does not deserve it.
