Is it permissible to supplicate to Allah, the Almighty and Exalted, by saying: "O our Lord, O our Magnificent One?"

It is permissible to supplicate with "Ya 'Adheem" (O Most Great), because it is one of Allah's Beautiful Names. However, it is not permissible to supplicate with "Ya 'Adheemana" (O Our Most Great), because the possessive addition restricts the greatness and specifies it to the speakers, whereas Allah is the Absolute Most Great.

The difference between adding "Rabbana" (Our Lord) and "Adheemana" (Our Most Great) becomes clear by revealing the implicit meaning. "Ya Rabba an-Nas" (O Lord of mankind) is permissible in meaning, while "Ya 'Adheema an-Nas" (O Most Great of mankind) contains ambiguity and problematic implications.

Based on this principle, "Ya Khaliqana" (O Our Creator) and "Ya Mawlana" (O Our Protector/Master) and similar phrases are permissible, but "Ya 'Azeezana" (O Our All-Powerful) and "Ya Kareemana" (O Our Most Generous) and similar phrases are not.

It is better to adhere to the method of the Prophets and the supplications found in the Qur'an and Sunnah, such as "Rabbana" (Our Lord). This is what Imam Malik and others disliked regarding supplicating with "Ya Sayyidi" (O My Master).
