Scholars have differed on the ruling of isbal (letting garments hang below the ankles) when it is not out of arrogance. The adopted by us is the absolute prohibition of isbal, whether it be for the izar (lower garment), trousers, or other clothing. It appears that covering the ankles is permissible, and that the prohibition and warning apply to covering what is below them. To avoid sin, it is sufficient for the length of the trousers not to extend below the ankles.
