Would the shop be permissible if the goods of a shop selling music tapes and CDs were sold, and then the money obtained was used to open a shop selling foodstuffs?
Praise be to Allah for guiding you to the decision to close the shop. We ask Allah to keep you steadfast. If Allah has forbidden something, He has also forbidden its price. Therefore, it is not permissible to sell CDs that contain music. However, if it is possible to erase what is on them and then sell them, there is no harm in that. As for money earned from forbidden goods, it is not permissible to benefit from it except to the extent of one's need. If a poor person repents, it is permissible to give him from it according to his needs. You can start a business with lawful money, and be certain that whoever gives up something for the sake of Allah, Allah will compensate him with something better.
