What should a wife do with her husband who spends excessively on food and banquets, and how can she reduce disagreements between them? Is it permissible for her to take money from his pocket without his knowledge for the future?

Feeding others is an act of piety and charity, as long as it does not exceed the limit. If it does, it becomes blameworthy extravagance, and the limit is determined by custom. Allah Almighty forbids extravagance in all things, including eating and spending. He says: (And do not be extravagant; indeed, He does not like those who are extravagant) (Al-An'am: 141). The husband should spend in a reasonable manner and avoid wastefulness and extravagance, for generosity is a station between stinginess and extravagance. The wife can explain to her husband that what he is doing is not commendable generosity but rather blameworthy wastefulness.
