Is it permissible to lie to an innovator (Mubtadi') or a promoter of misguidance in order to refute his argument and nullify his false claims?

Innovations (bid‘ahs) and whims (ahwa’) are grave evils that must be combated with lawful means. It is not permissible to commit prohibited acts, such as lying, as a means of inviting people to Allah.
