Is divorce valid after intercourse, and is it permissible to marry another?

The majority of scholars hold that a divorce pronounced during a period of purity (tuhr) in which the husband had intercourse with his wife is valid. Some, however, maintain that it is not valid. Since the divorce was issued through a Sharia court, it is considered valid, and the woman is permitted to marry after her waiting period (iddah) has ended.
