The Companions used to address the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, with "O Messenger of Allah" or "O Prophet of Allah," in compliance with the words of the Almighty: "Make not the calling of the Messenger among yourselves as the calling of one of you to another," as Allah forbade them from calling him by his name, out of reverence for him.
